We see a variety of adolescent and adult patients who are experiencing head and neck pain. Whether you are just starting to look for answers to solve your or your child’s pain problems or have experienced failed treatments in the past, you can find the help you’re looking for at the Piper Clinic.
Your appointment at the Piper Clinic will be a full day experience.
The complete workup consists of testing the bite; evaluating your muscles; listening for joint noises; going through your history of treatments and traumas; and scanning your condyle bone with a CT to check height, dimensions and comparing those measurements to normal. A CT scan will help tell if you have longstanding damage from years ago due to a trauma or a childhood growth issue. We also send you a few blocks away to have an MRI completed. The MRI will give us a clear picture of the bone and tissue and tell us if the disks in the TMJ are dislocated.
After the workup is completed, Dr. Piper will answer all of your questions, present recommendations for treatment and develop a plan of action. An assistant will take notes during the consultation and before you leave, you will receive a copy.
Our consultations are scheduled on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Patients should arrive at the Piper Clinic promptly, preferably early, at 7:00 am. Plan on staying late. You could be here as late as 8 or 9pm. We ask our patients not to drive or fly home until the day after the appointment because there is no guarantee how long you could be here.
Please bring the following items:
Do not bring office notes, legal files and scans taken outside the head and neck region.
You will also have a break for lunch and some down time throughout the day. We recommend bringing something to occupy your time: books, magazines, laptop, etc..., It is always wise to bring a sweater because of the office temperature.

At the end of the week, we mail your records to you on a CD. You will receive images of the CT scan, MRI scan, photos of the bite and the models, CT scan and MRI dictation, your updated history, and a letter from Dr. Piper summarizing his findings and recommendations. Those doctors you listed on your consent form will also receive these records. We then schedule a follow up appointment in person or by phone a few weeks later after you've had time to review your records.
Although we do not accept any insurance, The Piper Clinic staff will give you a claim form that includes all applicable procedure codes and diagnosis codes you can submit to your medical insurance. Your medical insurance company will then reimburse the agreed upon amount.
If you need any prior approvals or help with any appeals, contact our Patient Care Coordinators. Please feel free to email Info@PiperClinic.com or contact our office at (727) 823-3220 with your insurance-related questions.
